Why Do Children Fall Behind In School?
In my experience, children typically fall behind in school due to some form of lack of instruction. Perhaps this was due to an absence or lack of attention. It could also be that the material wasn’t repeated, or it wasn’t presented in the child’s unique learning style. Of course there are many reasons children don’t perform well in a subject area and fall behind. Be that as it may, offering customized lessons through tutoring is the key to success now and in the future.
How do children learn to read?
Did you know that before children learn to read they develop an awareness of print and what books are about? First, children begin to understand that print carries meaning, has different purposes, and corresponds to speech. They begin to understand that words are made up of letters and that sentences are made up of these words. Furthermore, children begin to understand that sentences start with capital letters and end with punctuation.
Children learn all about books the first time they pick one up. First and foremost, they notice that books have a front and back cover and a spine. Second, they learn which way a book is held, and learn all about the title and title page. Next, children start to identify who the author and illustrator are. They can then begin to understand that they must read pages from left to right, and to read the book from the front to the back. They realize the story continues by turning the page.
Early reading instruction is of the utmost importance, as are all the areas of reading instruction that follow in grades K-12. Therefore, areas of reading and writing instruction may need individualized instruction taught by a certified teacher. This can be done in a tutoring or home education setting. Additionally, lesson plans are designed specifically for your child’s progress.
